The Polymer Clay Techniques Book

how to use polymer clay
All about how to use polymer clay

Polymer clay (also known as oven-bake clay) is actually a type of plastic. You can sculpt it, mold it, extrude it, roll it into sheets, cut shapes from it. It is available in a rainbow of colors. You can simulate wood, stone, and metal. When you are ready to turn the clay into a permanent plastic, you just bake it in your kitchen oven or toaster oven for 20 minutes or so. Some brands make a hard plastic, other brands make plastic that can be bent without breaking, and some new types make a permanent rubbery plastic. The clay can be used to make sculptures, jewelry, beads, decorations, dolls, figurines, mosaics, puppets, and useful items.

Tip -If you are making prototype parts and want a plastic that comes close to commercial “injection molded” plastic in look and feel, try polymer clay.

This book is a great introduction to polymer clay. You will learn the properties of the different brands of clay, what equipment is available to get the results you want, how to mix colors, bake, and finish. Plus how to do all types of popular techniques such as marbling, blending, millefiori, image transfers, enamel effects, metallic powders, and more. Demonstrations of beads, buttons, cabochons, boxes, flowers, stones, reliefs, using armatures, and more. Color photos throughout.

By Sue Hease. 128 pages. 7 1/2 x 10 1/2. Color Photos throughout.
